So Much for a Day Off!

Filed under: Just me — sara @ 2:29 am

I was supposed to be off this weekend.  While I didn’t really have any concrete plans, I was looking forward to being a couch potato and catching up some television on demand.  I got up and made a cup of coffee and had just sat down to begin enjoying it when my phone rang.

One of my co-workers was sick (again) and I had to go into work to pick up the slack.  Now, I’m not complaining because we all get sick at times, and someone has to cover for me, when I’m sick.  However, it just feels like it’s me that is always called.

I could have not answered the phone, but I’m too honest and loyal to ever do that.  Maybe the answer is to go into work with a weirdly matched outfit and tell them they caught me in the middle of doing my laundry?  I probably wouldn’t have a job very long like that, but it’s a fun thought.

Being called in on your day off just makes your days off feel so much shorter.  There is no making up that time lost.  You are just behind, catching up errands and chores on your next day off.

People Problems

Filed under: issues — sara @ 3:52 pm

What ever happened to good customer service?  Does it exist anymore?  In today’s culture, is it a matter of improper training, work ethic or does it just come down to lack of respect?

I went to my local grocery store this evening and saw the same young girl at the “customer service” counter I’ve seen on my last few visits.  Lately she has just acted like she didn’t want to be there.  She hasn’t actually acted short tempered but her manner has been hurried, if you know what I mean.  I have gotten to the point that I did  not ask her to complete transactions I went there for.  I’d rather do my business when someone is working that is more cordial.

Tonight, she said, while she was waiting on me, “I need a cigarette break.”  Having spent several years in the customer service business, working and training staff to go above and beyond to provide excellent customer service, I would never say that in front of a customer.  That is just not respectful, and it’s certainly not good customer service.

Whenever I receive good customer service, I am always very careful to thank the person and tell them that they provided excellent customer service.

Try the Salted Caramel Anything – So Good!

Filed under: Good Eats,Just me — sara @ 1:12 am

Looks like the new popular flavor is salted caramel and I LOVE this flavor. I have always loved salty foods over sweet foods, so the salty part is what got my attention. I love caramel – always have – and the addition of salt to caramel is just like heaven! There are salted caramel chocolates in all the stores now – I buy a bag of Ghiradelli chocolates every time I shop at Target. The salted caramel flavor is in the bright blue bag – look for it next time – I promise you will not be disappointed!

I just discovered a salted caramel pretzel milkshake at Steak ‘n Shake – and I am in love with this milkshake! It is SOOO good, and I find myself going to Steak ‘n shake instead of Starbucks in the afternoons when I feel the need for a pick-me-up. I think the lack of caffeine might be bad, and the extra sugar of a milkshake might be bad, but I deserve a treat once in a while!

My girlfriend tells me that Sonic does a slated caramel shake now, too. It doesn’t have the pretzel component, but I bet it tastes good, too. I’ll have to try one of Sonic’s shakes next time I drive in that direction.

This Shit Has Just Got To Stop

The car on my insurance policy has been broken down since June and I haven’t been driving it although I am continuing to pay the monthly insurance premiums. I’ve been really having a problem getting the part needed to fix the exhaust so the car will pass the state emissions test so that I can then get the new goddamned tags. My mechanic has ordered the part from several different places, but it never seems to ship and arrive at his fucking shop. I’m getting frustrated as hell at not having my car to drive and even more frustrated at paying a monthly insurance premium for a car that is not being driven, even to the end of the driveway to fetch the mail when the weather is too extreme to walk.

Tomorrow I will have to change things up and start driving a different car and make the changes to my insurance. Getting insurance for a replacement car should be pretty fucking easy. And it might even be cheaper. I’ll definitely be gathering car insurance quotes first thing in the morning and make the needed changes before the next weekend. There is nothing worse that throwing money right out the fucking window each and every first of the month, this shit has just got to stop.

Your Copier Can Make Or Break Your Ass

The company that I currently work for has outgrown our space in Cool Springs, but they aren’t sure what to do about growing and taking on more liabilities in this uncertain economic climate. They’ve been kicking around a few ideas, like office sharing, working from remote locations, or just biting the fucking bullet and getting a second or branch office. The least likely option would be to look for a larger office in Cool Springs. That is the most expensive real estate in Middle Tennessee, if not the whole state. Even more expensive than downtown. I was thinking that a small second office someplace where the rent is a lot cheaper would make sense for our back office operations.

For example, we could move the entire accounting department to Murfreesboro or Spring Hill. Everyone here would take their computers and their other personal office shit with them. We could buy some nice but inexpensive used office furniture and conference room equipment. The only thing we would need beyond that would be a copier. We really like the Ricoh Copiers that we are using at the Cool Springs office. It is a work horse – almost never jams and does not use much toner. We might even be able to buy a refurbished copier and save money on that, too. Having a good reliable copier can make or break your ass.

The Whole Fucking Neighborhood With ADT

At the end of most of the driveways in my neighborhood, you will find the little blue and white ADT sign on a stake by the mailbox, indicating that home is protected by an ADT Alarm System. We have never had a serious crime occur anywhere with blocks of my house, knock on wood. But I think a large part of that is because we are an older, established neighborhood and we all take precautions to protect our homes and possessions.

I’m sure every one of my asshole neighbors locks their doors and windows at night. Most park their vehicles inside their garage, and have enough fucking floodlights mounted on the corners of their houses to light up the whole block. When I first moved in, I had a lot of shit to learn about home alarms and I asked around with my neighbors to see which company they were using. Most of them use ADT Security Systems, as I could tell from the signs at the end of their driveways. With this many blue and white signs throughout the whole fucking neighborhood, it’s a silent testament to the effectiveness and trust placed in ADT. And I’m sure it is a good warning to the criminals looking for an easy as shit place to break in, that these homes are protected and not as easy as they might find someplace else.

Good Ass News By Phone

Last week’s front page has a story about the guy in Santa Cruz, CA who just won $39 fucking million in the lottery. It’s a great rags to riches story – he was working three jobs just trying to keep his head above water and now he is one of the richest people in America. The Santa Cruz Market is the store that will get $140,000 for selling the winning ticket. That’s nice for spreading the wealth around!

Today’s headline is that a former lottery winner was just killed and that this isn’t the first time that someone that has come into money through the fucking lottery and has died shortly after receiving the money. I didn’t realize that until I was looking a bit closer at the story and some of the links that I ended up clicking on. Pretty fucking disturbing.

I’ve heard that many states have lotteries now that people living close enough to the state line can play 3 or 4 different state lotteries at the same time. That’s a lot of fucking numbers to keep up with. There is even a cool as shit way to find out the winning numbers by having the lottery numbers sent right to your cell phone. You just pay a small monthly subscription and you get text messages sent to your phone. That’s the kind of good ass news that I would like to get by phone!

My Backyard

The backyard looks so horrible since my neighbor’s tree fell into it.  He is such a cocksucker, I can’t wait until this asshole up and moves, which should be in the next year or so, from what I’ve heard. Anyway it was a half way decent weather day, so I spent a good amount of time outside in the back in the cleaning up what I could all my self.  A tree company is scheduled to be coming out sometime this next week to cut up the tree(s) and to clean up the mess, I’m hoping that we will be getting some firewood out of this whole fucked up deal.

I’m glad of any firewood that I can get my hands on.  I love having a fireplace and I get to use it a good amount of time, this one actually puts out some heat that helps keep the house nice and warm.  The price of oil now is totally outrageous and we still have the whole winter to get through, months and months to go before any real warm weather sets back in.  I hate the cold weather. Last year we had a pretty mild winter. Word is that we will be paying out the ass this year for it.

Still Waiting

I knew that it would take a while to get all the test results in, especially since the CAT Scan was done on a Friday and that tends to make things take longer than usually, but good grief, it has been almost a week and I still haven’t heard word from my doctor’s office. Tomorrow is Friday and if I don’t hear anything tomorrow we have another weekend ahead of not knowing what the fuck is going on. The pain in my left isn’t getting any better and I’m really getting concerned.

I think that I’ll call the doctor’s office tomorrow morning to see if they have gotten the results back. I hate calling there, the receptionist is such a bitch. She is a pretty little thing, blonde, green eyed with a nice set of tits, but a total bitch to me for some reason. One day she is going to push the wrong button on a bad day and I swear I’ll just have to let her have it. I just don’t want to make any waves when it comes to my body and my health and messing with the help could possibly mess with my health and I just don’t want to go there.

Moldy Strawberries

Harris Teeter had a great sale on strawberries the other day, two for seven dollars, which isn’t the best deal ever, but better than full price. What pissed me off is that I couldn’t find a single container of strawberries that didn’t have at least one or two totally fucked up strawberries in the, much less two. I did find a container that had three strawberries that had turned to mold so I then started searching for someone in the Produce Section that I could bring these tainted berries to their attention.

After walking up and down the aisles for over 5 minutes I finally found an employee that was pretty embarrassed to see the condition of the containers that I had discovered. She went in the back and brought out a couple of racks of strawberries, that she claimed had just came off of the truck for me to pick two from to take home and was full of apologizes.

The very next day I reached into my refrigerator to get out the two containers of these wonderful strawberries to cut up and use some for dinner. The rest I planned on washing, cutting and freezing for future use, when I noticed that both containers had several berries that had been totally covered with this nasty assed mold. Boy wasn’t I pissed off to find this shit and immediately found my receipt, got the phone number of the store off of it and gave them a call. I was nice about it, I found out a long time ago that being a bitch right off the bat rarely works to my advantage. All of I have to do is take the receipt into the store and ask for Michael and he will gladly make sure that I get my money back. I think I’m done with strawberries for a good long while now.
